The New Northfield Diner, a staple at 1515 New Road in Northfield for decades, is up for lease. The diner has been closed since January, according to owner Sal Zaitoun.

Diner Has Been Closed for Months

A Facebook post by Northfifeld Diner in February was the last social media communication from the business. It gives some insight into why the diner has been closed more than open lately.

Dear valued customers and friends,
We wanted to let you know that our diner will be closed until further notice due to health issues. This wasn’t an easy decision, but right now our focus needs to be on taking care of what matters most.
We are so grateful for your continued support, loyalty, and kindness. Your encouragement means more to us than you know.
We will keep you updated as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

Want to Lease a Diner?

A 'For Lease' sign put up recently caused me to pull in and walk around the front of the Northfield Diner on Tuesday.  A peek through the window shows a restaurant that looks like it could be open for business tomorrow.

But the Northfield Diner hasn't been open for months, and it mostly looked closed even when it was open.

Northfield Diner had a loyal following, though, and the food was always tasty. I had a few good meals there over the years.

I remember hosting the morning radio show at the Northfield Diner one day years ago and offering listeners a 96-cent breakfast.

The New Northfield Diner, owned by Sal and Marlin Zaitoun, opened as the Northfield Diner in 1954, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

It changed names a couple of times in later years, running as Athena's Diner and Sunset Diner for a time and then returning to the name Northfield Diner.
