The beat goes on for the Philadelphia Flyers. While they finally appeared to turn a bit of a corner with their level of play, the results still have not been there through five games.

Thursday night in Ottawa was another example, as the Flyers fell to the Senators, 2-1, to extend their season-opening winless streak to five games. A three-game road trip comes to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon against the Boston Bruins.

Keys to the Game

  • Offensive Zone Pressure: The Flyers finally had moments of sustained offensive-zone time on Thursday in Ottawa. Keeping that going has to be a part of their game to have any chance at generating more offense.
  • Stay Out of the Box: Taking four penalties in the first period on Thursday disrupted any rhythm in their game. Then the lone penalty the rest of the way produced the game-winning goal for Ottawa. The Flyers need to avoid the parade to the penalty box.
  • Get the First One: You can sense the weight on the shoulders of everyone involved to just get a win. Getting ahead in the game and applying the work ethic to close out a win is going to be needed and soon.

By the Numbers

  • The Bruins have scored first in three of their five games this season. The Flyers have allowed the first goal in four of five games.
  • Through five games, the Flyers have scored six goals, an average of 1.2 per game. The Bruins are coming off a 6-1 win over the Utah Mammoth on Thursday.
  • This is the Flyers' fourth road game of the season. They are 0-2-1 on the road so far. The Bruins are 2-1-0 on home ice.

Quotable

  • "We didn't get the result that we needed, but at least we got a good effort. We can build on some good things that we did tonight. But we've got to keep grinding, finding ways to get wins here." - Sean Couturier

X-Factors

  • Matvei Michkov: Michkov was one of the best forwards on the ice for the Flyers in Thursday's game, and after getting another goal, holds the team lead with two on the season.
  • David Pastrnak: The newly-named Bruins captain is off to a hot start this season and always finds a way to make things happen against the Flyers. Pastrnak has 26 goals and 46 points in 37 career games against the Flyers.
